Incumbent Lexington mayor and businesswoman advance to November election

Unofficial results show Linda Gorton and Raquel Carter beat out five other candidates in Tuesday's primary

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Incumbent Mayor Linda Gorton and businesswoman Raquel Carter will face off in November’s Lexington mayoral election, according to unofficial results.

Gorton led the field with more than 25,000 votes, capturing 46% of the total vote. Carter came in second with more than 15,000 votes. The two beat out five other candidates in Tuesday’s primary.

Gorton is now seeking her third term in office. She recently faced intense scrutiny over the city’s winter weather plan.
