Laurel County arson investigators probe early morning structure fire that injured 2 firefighters

UPDATE: May 15 at 10 a.m.
Two firefighter were injured when a wall reportedly collapsed during a blaze at a garage with an occupied apartment in Laurel County, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The fire was reported at around 3 a.m. on Friday. The resident of the apartment was able to escape without injury, officials added.
One firefighter was from Lily Fire and Rescue and one was from the Laurel County Volunteer Fire Department. Both sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital, where they were treated and released.
Laurel County Sheriff John Root said his office’s arson investigator, Brian Lewis, is working alongside the Kentucky State Fire Marshal’s office to determine the cause of the fire. Investigators have not yet determined a cause, and the fire remains under investigation.
The scene has since been cleared and the roadway has been reopened.

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – London Mayor Randall Weddle says that two firefighters were injured in a structure fire overnight Friday after a wall reportedly collapsed on them.
According to Mayor Weddle, both were pulled from the structure fire to safety, and the extent of their injuries is unclear.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reported that both directions of U.S. 25 South at the 4.6 mile marker are now open as of 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
