AVOL Kentucky launches community food forest project in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Lexington nonprofit is launching a new project aimed at improving community health and access to fresh food.

AVOL Kentucky is creating Anderson Meadow, a food forest at its campus on Hill Rise Drive.

Organizers say the space will feature native, edible plants and will be open to the community for both harvesting and hands-on learning.

AVOL is also partnering with Geomancer Permaculture to offer a series of free community classes this spring, where participants can help plant and grow the food forest together.

Officials say the project is designed to promote sustainability, improve food access, and provide educational opportunities for the community.
