Barn fire destroys 10 tractors in Clay City, crews face access challenges

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A barn fire in Clay City destroyed multiple pieces of equipment early Thursday morning, though no injuries were reported.

According to the Clay City Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 3:09 a.m. Thursday to a fully engulfed structure fire on Black Creek Road.

Officials say the fire destroyed 10 tractors inside the barn.

Firefighters faced challenges accessing the scene, as a nearby bridge could not support fire apparatus. Crews had to manually advance equipment to reach the fire.

Authorities say a large amount of wood and other materials inside the barn helped fuel the intense flames.

Clay City Fire requested mutual aid for manpower and water support from multiple departments, including Target, Clark County, Winchester, Stanton, and Middle Fork fire departments.

Officials say the fire is now under control, but crews remain on scene working to extinguish hot spots.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
