Kentucky House passes bill to improve safety at railroad crossings
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A bill aimed at improving safety at railroad crossings is moving forward in Kentucky.
Lawmakers in the Kentucky House of Representatives have passed House Bill 311, sponsored by Josh Calloway and co-sponsored by Nancy Tate.
The legislation would require railroad companies to clear overgrown vegetation near railroad crossings to help drivers better see oncoming trains.
Supporters say blocked visibility near crossings has contributed to serious and even deadly crashes in the past.
The bill now heads to the Kentucky Senate for consideration.
