Chicago celebrates 189th anniversary of incorporation
CHICAGO. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Chicago marked a major milestone Wednesday as the city celebrated the anniversary of its incorporation.
The Chicago was first incorporated on March 4, 1837, making this year the city’s 189th birthday.
During the celebration, Brandon Johnson spoke about Chicago’s history and its future, encouraging residents to continue working to make the city more equitable, just and prosperous.
The event also included a ceremonial cake cutting, and the first 189 attendees received a free sweet treat to mark the occasion.
