“Swiftie” officially added to Dictionary.com as Taylor Swift fan term

(ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The term “Swiftie” now has official dictionary recognition.

Dictionary.com has added the word to its online dictionary, defining it as “a fan of the music of” Taylor Swift.

Swift trademarked the term back in 2017 and has used it on merchandise connected to her brand.

Dictionary.com regularly adds new words to reflect how the English language evolves and how popular culture shapes everyday vocabulary.

The site has also added several other fan-based terms, including “Beyhive” for fans of Beyoncé, “Trekkie” for fans of Star Trek, and “Janeite” for admirers of Jane Austen.
