Fugitive arrested in Laurel County after fleeing traffic stop on Cumberland Gap Parkway

LAUREL COUNTY, KY. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A fugitive wanted on gun and drug trafficking charges is now in custody after deputies say he ran from officers during a traffic stop in Laurel County.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Jeremy Roberts was arrested early Wednesday morning in a wooded area off Interstate 75 near State Road 770.

Deputies say the search for Roberts began Sunday night after he allegedly fled from his vehicle during a traffic stop on Cumberland Gap Parkway. Authorities say he was initially pulled over for driving a vehicle without a license plate.

Investigators say drugs and multiple firearms were found in the vehicle, including a reportedly stolen AR-15 rifle and a stolen suppressor.

Officials say three other suspects were also arrested in connection with the case.

Roberts is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on March 12.
