GoFundMe launched for Perry Central High School sophomore killed in ATV accident
HAZARD, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Perry County Central High School student killed in an ATV crash Saturday night is being remembered for her bright smile, love of sports and the impact she made on those around her.
Family members have identified the teen as 16-year-old Emilynn Clark. Her uncle, Scottie Clark, says she was killed in an ATV accident Saturday evening in Perry County.
According to the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene around 9 p.m. Saturday. Investigators say a 16-year-old girl was driving an ATV with three passengers when the vehicle went over an embankment.
Authorities say Emilynn Clark, riding in the passenger seat was killed. An adult man who was riding in the back of the ATV was seriously injured.
Investigators believe the teenage driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and has been charged with DUI. The investigation remains active, including how the driver obtained alcohol.
In the days since the crash, friends, family and classmates have been mourning the loss of Emilynn, a sophomore at Perry County Central High School where she played volleyball and basketball.
In a message posted to GoFundMe, her uncle described Emilynn as “so smart and intelligent,” adding that she was loved by everyone who knew her and remembered for her infectious smile.
School officials confirmed over the weekend that a student was tragically killed in an ATV accident and said they are heartbroken for the student’s family, friends and the entire Perry County Central “Commodore” family. Counselors were made available Monday morning to help students and staff process the loss.
Her family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral and monument expenses. According to the post, 100 percent of the proceeds will be paid directly to the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced at a later time.
Loved ones say they are grateful for the outpouring of prayers and support during this difficult time, as the community continues to come together to remember a young life taken far too soon.
