53 cats surrendered to Lexington Animal Care; officials urge spay and neuter
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Dozens of cats are now in the care of Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control after being surrendered earlier this week.
According to a post on the agency’s Facebook page, 53 cats and kittens were turned over from a single home in Lexington.
In the post, officials stressed the importance of spaying and neutering pets to help prevent situations like this. Animal Care & Control says residents in need of spay or neuter services can contact the Lexington Humane Society or the Woodstock Animal Foundation for possible assistance.
In a separate social media post, Animal Care & Control also shared details about a previous neglect case in Lexington.
Officials say that in the summer of 2024, they responded to reports of dogs abandoned inside a home on Larkwood Drive. Investigators learned the owner was incarcerated and had claimed someone was caring for the animals. However, an independent check revealed no one had been at the home for several days.
Animal Care & Control says, with help from the Lexington Police Department, officers entered the home and rescued a puppy and an adult pit bull from what were described as extremely unsanitary conditions without food or water.
According to the post, the owner, Quentin White, has since been convicted.
Officials say both dogs have now been adopted.
Animal Care & Control urges anyone who suspects animal neglect or abuse to call 859-255-9033.
