KSP: Teen fatally shot by sibling in Pike County

KIMPER, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police are investigating an accidental shooting that claimed the life of a Pike County teenager.

The shooting happened Wednesday before 10 p.m. in the Kimper community.

Troopers say 16-year-old Gabrielle “Gabbi” May McCoy was shot by her 18-year-old sister, who was examining a gun when it accidentally went off.

McCoy was taken to the Pikeville Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, according to investigators.

McCoy would have been a senior at Phelps High School.

KSP says foul play is not suspected and no charges have been filed at this time.

An autopsy is pending.
