Kentucky State Police investigating deadly house fire in Owsley County

BOONEVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky State Police is investigating a deadly house fire in Owsley County that claimed the life of a Booneville man.

According to a release from Kentucky State Police, troopers were called just before 10 a.m. Tuesday to Amburgey Road in Booneville at the request of the Owsley County Sheriff’s Department for investigative assistance.

Investigators say Vernon Herald, 60, of Booneville, died at the scene, according to the Owsley County Coroner.

Kentucky State Police say detectives, troopers, and the coroner responded alongside local agencies. The Kentucky State Fire Marshal’s Office is also assisting as investigators work to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

Officials say the investigation remains active, but foul play is not suspected at this time.
