Versailles police investigating death after man found hanging from building; possible burglary attempt, say police
VERSAILLES, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A death investigation is underway in Woodford County after police say a man was found hanging from a building early Monday morning.
According to the Versailles Police Department, officers were sent around 7:30 a.m. Monday to the 400 block of Lexington Road after a person driving by reported seeing someone hanging upside down from a structure.
Police say officers arrived to find a man, believed to be around 60 years old, hanging by his legs from a utility pipe connected to the building. First responders lowered him to the ground and took him to the hospital, where he later died, according to investigators.
The man’s identity has not been released. The Woodford County Coroner’s Office says the name is being withheld until family members are notified.
Detectives say preliminary findings suggest the man may have gained access to the roof and was attempting to burglarize the building. Investigators believe he fell at some point and became stuck on the building’s utility equipment.
The Versailles Police Department Detective Bureau continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
