Man Found Dead After House Fire in Letcher County

MCROBERTS, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A man was found dead following a residential structure fire Saturday morning in Letcher County, according to Kentucky State Police.

KSP Post 13 in Hazard said troopers received a report around 7:41 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, of a structure fire along KY Highway 343 in the McRoberts community.

Troopers and local first responders arrived to find the residence fully engulfed in flames, police said. After the fire was extinguished, emergency personnel searched the home for the homeowner, identified as Robert Mullins, 70, of McRoberts.

During the search, the remains of one individual were found inside the residence and are believed to be those of Mullins. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities said no foul play is suspected at this time. The remains were transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.

The investigation remains ongoing.
