Driver airlifted after collision with tree

MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Emergency crews were busy early Tuesday morning after a serious crash along Rose Hill Road in Mount Vernon.

According to the Mount Vernon Fire Department, firefighters were called to a vehicle crash involving a tree around 7:30 a.m., where they assisted EMS crews with patient care at the scene.

Because of the severity of the injuries, officials requested an air medical helicopter. A landing zone was set up at Rockcastle County High School to allow for safe transport, while the Brodhead Fire Department helped secure the area.

Crews remained at the crash site while the patient was flown to a hospital. Officials have not released additional details about the person’s condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
