Second suspect arrested in Bell County stolen payroll check investigation

BELL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A second person has been arrested in connection with an investigation into a stolen payroll check belonging to a Bell County ambulance service employee, according to the Bell County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say a warrant was issued for 23-year-old Caleb Chase Day of Wallins Creek as a co-defendant alongside Emily Long.

Investigators allege Day cashed the stolen payroll check at a Gas N Go store in Harlan on Jan. 30.

Authorities say troopers attempted to serve the warrant Saturday in Cumberland, but Day allegedly fled on foot before being taken into custody a short time later.

Day faces several charges, including fleeing or evading police, theft by deception involving more than $1,000, and possession of a forged instrument. Officials say he was also served with an outstanding warrant for contempt of court.

H’s being held in the Harlan County Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing.
