Tennessee man accused of dragging officer in Kentucky

BELL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The U.S. Marshals Service says a Tennessee man wanted in connection with a violent assault on a police officer is now in custody following a fugitive investigation in Bell County.

According to officials, 24-year-old John Brandon Gray was arrested without incident Friday morning on Mason Hill Road in Pineville during a joint operation involving multiple federal, Kentucky, and Tennessee law enforcement agencies.

Authorities say Gray was wanted by the Barbourville Police Department on several charges, including second-degree assault of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, and multiple counts of wanton endangerment.

Incident tied to officer injury

Investigators say the charges stem from a traffic stop in which a Barbourville officer was allegedly dragged by a vehicle. Officials say the officer was treated for injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

What happens next

Gray was taken to the Knox County Detention Center, where he will remain while awaiting his next court appearance.

Authorities have not released additional details, and the case remains active.
