Family of Sharon Rose Sons still searching for answers more than 30 years after Lexington disappearance

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — More than three decades after Sharon Rose Sons disappeared, her family says they are still holding onto hope — and asking the community for help in finding answers.

Sons was reported missing in October 1993. Police say she was last seen leaving a home on Cane Run Road, telling others she was heading to a coin laundry. Investigators say she never arrived.

ABC 36 spoke with family members, who say the pain of not knowing what happened has never gone away.

“I want closure and justice,” sister Deborah said.

A family still waiting for answers

Sharon’s sister described her as someone full of life.

“She was just full of life, and she was funny. Her smile was just breathtaking,” Deborah said.

Police describe Sons as 5 feet 1 inch tall, about 98 pounds, with blonde hair and green eyes. At the time she disappeared, she was reportedly wearing a knee-length denim skirt, sneakers, a gold chain with a cross, and a gold necklace with the name “Willie.”

Family members say the years without answers have been incredibly difficult.

“We’ve just missed so much all these years, and we’re just hoping that someone will come forth, and we get new leads to where we can bring her home,” Deborah said.

She added that at the time of Sharon’s disappearance, she knew her sister had been dealing with issues involving a partner.

“At the beginning, we had hope. But as days turned into weeks, and weeks to months, and months to years, I was like, ‘She’s no longer here,’” Deborah said.

A mother’s plea for closure

Sharon’s mother says the family continues to search for closure.

“That was my baby girl. I just wish somebody would come forth with the information so we could find her and bring her home and give her a proper burial like she deserves to have,” she said.

Police say the case remains classified as a missing persons investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lexington Police or submit an anonymous tip through Bluegrass Crime Stoppers.
