‘Furry burglar’ removed after ‘possum found sitting at kitchen table in Lexington home

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A surprise visitor inside a Lexington home earlier this month turned out to be more furry than frightening.

According to a social media post from the Lexington Police Department, officers were called to a home after reports of a ‘possum that had apparently made its way inside — and taken a seat at the kitchen table.

Police say when officers arrived, they found the Virginia opossum sitting in a kitchen chair like an unexpected houseguest.

Officers safely captured the animal and later released it back into the wild. Police joked online that the situation ended peacefully “after negotiations.”

No injuries were reported, and the unusual call is a reminder to secure doors and openings that wildlife could use to get indoors.
