Two charged with reckless homicide after infant death investigation

OWSLEY COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Two people have been arrested and charged in connection with an infant death investigation in Owsley County, according to Kentucky State Police.

Troopers say 27-year-old Deeann Bennett and 32-year-old Charles Bennett were taken into custody Monday. Both are charged with reckless homicide and concealing the death of an infant.

State police say Deeann Bennett also faces additional charges of tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Investigators say the case began in November 2024 after troopers received a 911 call about a woman taken to a nearby hospital reporting a possible miscarriage. According to KSP, the couple told authorities the infant was still at their home on Lewis Lane in Booneville.

Troopers say when they arrived at the residence, they found an unresponsive infant over an embankment outside the home. The Owsley County Coroner said the infant died at the scene.

No court dates have been set at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
