Pedestrian killed after being struck on US-421 identified by coroner

WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle along US-421 in Woodford County, according to Versailles police.

The Woodford County Coroner’s Office says 93-year-old David T. Phillips Jr, of Woodford County died at the scene.

Versailles Police Chief Rob Young confirmed the crash happened Monday before 8:40 a.m. along US-421 between Coach Station Road and Moores Mill Road, just east of Midway.

Police say Phillips was already in the roadway when they arrive. The vehicle involved and the driver remained on scene when officers arrived.

The roadway was shut down in both directions for several hours but has since reopened.

Chief Young says it is too early in the investigation to determine whether charges will be filed. The crash remains under investigation.

WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Drivers are being urged to avoid part of US-421 in Woodford County after a collision shut down the roadway in both directions.

According to traffic information shared by lexwrecks, US-421 is closed between Coach Station Road and Moores Mill Road, just east of Midway.

Traffic heading toward Lexington is being diverted to Georgetown Road and then to I-64 East. Traffic traveling toward Midway is being rerouted onto Moores Mill Road.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes and allow extra travel time.
