Two rescued, flown to hospital following ATV crash

ROCKCASTLE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Two people were rescued and flown to a hospital after an ATV crash over an embankment Sunday in Mount Vernon.

Fire officials say the crash happened on Sinking Valley Springs Road, where conditions were extremely dangerous. Crews described the roadway as a solid sheet of ice.

According to firefighters, the ATV went over an embankment and down the other side of a hill. Rescue crews used two separate rope systems to reach and safely pull the victims to safety.

Once rescued, both individuals were airlifted by helicopter to a hospital. Their conditions have not been released.

The incident remains under investigation.
