Clay County recovers from storm damage

CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Officials in Clay County declared a state of emergency on Monday after a severe caused flooding and wind damage.

Emergency management is trying to assess all the damage and get things cleaned up.

Clay County had bad storms on Sunday and Monday.

The emergency management director says there was bad flooding that blocked roads and forced people to evacuate.

At its worst, there were about twenty county roads affected.

The director says there is more than $100,000 in damage and if the rain doesn’t stop it will only get worse.

“I feel really bad for the northern part of our county right now. They have a lot of damage, homeowners have a lot of damage. Our county roads are working every day. It looked bad, David Watson, Emergency Management Director.

The director says emergency management is prepared and is on high alert if more rain comes.
