Franklin County Fire Conducts Ice Rescue Training
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Crews with the Franklin County Fire Department took advantage of favorable weather conditions Sunday morning to conduct ice rescue training alongside City of Frankfort Fire & EMS.
Officials say the training focused on operating on unstable ice, victim removal techniques, and coordinated rescue efforts using specialized equipment. Emphasis was placed on crew safety while responding to hazardous winter conditions.
Fire officials also issued an ice safety reminder, warning that ice conditions can change rapidly and are often thinner than they appear. Residents are urged to avoid walking on frozen ponds, lakes, and rivers, and to keep pets and children off the ice.
Departments say ongoing cooperative training helps ensure responders are prepared to act quickly and safely when seconds matter.
The Franklin County Fire Department also thanked Benson Marina for providing space to conduct the training.
