Man charged after alleged assault on Rep. Ilhan Omar during town hall
MINNEAPOLIS (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A 55-year-old man is facing assault charges after authorities say he attacked Ilhan Omar during a town hall event in Minneapolis.
The incident happened Tuesday during the public meeting.
According to authorities, video posted to social media allegedly shows Anthony Kazmierczak approaching Omar and using a syringe to spray apple cider vinegar on her.
Officials say Omar was not injured.
Authorities also say Kazmierczak has previously shown animosity toward Omar.
Hennepin County jail records show Kazmierczak was released from county custody Thursday and transferred to federal authorities.
The case remains under investigation.
