Kentucky suffers blowout loss at the hands of No. 17 Vanderbilt
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The Kentucky Wildcats’ five-game winning streak came to a halt with an 80-55 loss at the hands of No. 17 Vanderbilt. It marked the Wildcats’ first loss since January 7.
Kentucky never led in the game and found itself trailing big from the start. The Commodores jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never relinquished it. Vanderbilt pushed the advantage to double digits with 10:10 left in the first half and led by at least that margin for the remainder of the contest.
It was a sloppy outing for Kentucky, as the Wildcats shot just 6-of-24 (25%) from three-point range and committed 13 turnovers.
Otega Oweh led the team with 20 points, while Denzel Aberdeen also finished in double figures with 15 points.
With the loss, Kentucky falls to 2–6 in ranked matchups this season and to 14–7 overall (5-3 SEC). Vanderbilt improves to 18–3 overall and 5–3 in SEC play.
Kentucky will return to action Saturday when it travels to Fayetteville to take on No. 15 Arkansas and head coach John Calipari. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN.
