Trump: He’s praying for those shooting affected

PARKLAND, Fla. (AP) – President Donald Trump says he and first lady Melania Trump are praying for those affected by the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 people dead one year ago Thursday.

In a statement Thursday, Trump says that after the tragedy, he held a school violence discussion at the White House and created the Federal Commission on School Safety.

He said he signed legislation authorizing $1 billion to prevention programs and reporting systems nationwide. He says the government also is working to expand services to low-income schools and convened a school safety summit to better identify troubled students, conduct threat assessments and set up anonymous reporting systems. The administration also has completed a regulatory process to ban bump stocks, which allow guns to mimic fully automatic fire.
