Firefighters rescue driver from overturned vehicle
NELSON COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Firefighters in Nelson County rescued a driver Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle overturned into an icy creek.
According to officials, the Bardstown Fire Department, along with Nelson County Fire and Nelson County Fire & Rescue, were called around 3:15 p.m. to the 1300 block of High Grove Road. Crews were responding to reports of a vehicle that had flipped into a creek.
When firefighters arrived, they found the vehicle upside down in the creek bed, surrounded by about a foot of cold water and ice. Officials say Nelson County Fire & Rescue worked to safely extract the driver from the vehicle, while the Bardstown Fire Department set up a rope system using an aerial device to help remove the person from the creek.
Once the driver was freed, crews lifted the patient out of the creek and transported them to a hospital for treatment. The driver’s condition has not been released.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
