Garrard County to activate warming shelters ahead of winter blast

GARRARD COUNTY. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Garrard County Emergency Management will activate warming shelters beginning this weekend as cold weather moves into the area. Officials say the activation may be extended depending on changing weather conditions.

Warming shelters will be available at several locations, including the Lancaster Police Department, the Garrard County Homeless Center, the Cartersville–Paint Lick Fire Department, and Forks of Dix River Baptist Church.

In addition to shelter access, emergency management officials say they will provide transportation to warming shelters, conduct welfare checks for those impacted by the weather, assist with medication pick-ups, and offer transportation to and from work for essential emergency services personnel. This includes nurses, EMS workers, and nursing home staff.

Anyone needing access to a warming shelter or other assistance is asked to contact Bluegrass 911 Communications.
