Lexington community honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with Freedom March and celebration
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The City of Lexington and members of the community came together Monday to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Events began with the annual Freedom March through downtown Lexington. The route started at the Central Bank Center on Main Street, drawing community members of all ages.
Ja’Mahl McDaniel, director of the University of Kentucky Martin Luther King Center, spoke about the importance of continued community involvement.
“We’re just super excited to have so many people continue to come out, not only just to celebrate Dr. King’s life and legacy, but also to reflect on what that means to us in our community,” McDaniel said.
The march was followed by a celebration event that featured a keynote speaker and a photo exhibit. Organizers say the exhibit will move to the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center, where it will be on display from January 20 through January 30.
