Tonie Morgan hits the game winner as No. 11 Kentucky beats No. 5 LSU
BATON ROUGE, La. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — The Kentucky Wildcats defeated the previously undefeated LSU Tigers, 80–78, on the road, thanks to a game-winning three-pointer by Tonie Morgan with 0.5 seconds remaining.
The game was a back-and-forth battle throughout and was tied at 41 at halftime. Kentucky found itself down by as many as nine points in the third quarter but fought back to cut the deficit to five entering the fourth.
The Wildcats outscored the Tigers by seven in the final quarter to escape Baton Rouge with a massive SEC victory.
The hero, Tonie Morgan, was also the star of the game for Kentucky. She recorded 24 points and dished out 12 assists without committing a turnover.
Teonni Key returned from injury for the Wildcats and posted a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in 39 minutes.
Clara Strack added 15 points and nine rebounds.
Asia Boone scored 18 points off the bench for Kentucky.
With the win, Kentucky improves to 14–1 overall and 1–0 in SEC play.
The Wildcats return home on Sunday for their SEC home opener against Missouri. Tipoff is set for noon on the SEC Network.
