South Carolina man arrested for DUI after crash in Laurel County

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A South Carolina man was arrested early Tuesday morning following a non-injury crash on Interstate 75 in Laurel County, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff John Root says Deputy Arnold Arnett arrested 22-year-old Maxim Bechta of Anderson, South Carolina, around 12:34 a.m. on Dec. 23. The arrest happened about nine miles north of London after deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash.

During the investigation, deputies noted damage to both vehicles and reported detecting the odor of alcohol coming from Bechta, who was driving a black Toyota Camry. After further investigation, deputies determined he was under the influence.

Bechta was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, first offense, and was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
