One dead, one seriously injured in early morning Laurel County crash

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning in Laurel County.

According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to Kentucky 192 about nine miles west of London just after 5 a.m.

Investigators say an SUV was traveling westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lane, left the roadway and crashed head-on into a tree.

The driver, identified by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office as 52-year-old Christopher Allen Cornett of London, was critically injured and taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The passenger, 38-year-old Ashley Jane Mosley of Lily, Kentucky, was seriously injured and airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment, according to the sheriff’s office.

Several agencies responded to the scene, including the Keavy Volunteer Fire Department, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, the London–Laurel County Rescue Squad, the Laurel County Coroner’s Office and a PHI medical helicopter.

The crash remains under investigation.
