Lexington man charged with arson after hotel fire on North Broadway, citation says
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Lexington man is facing felony charges after police say he intentionally set a fire at a local hotel, creating a dangerous situation for people inside.
According to a Uniform Citation filed by the Lexington Police Department, 33-year-old Christopher P. Britt was arrested late Saturday night following an incident at the Days Inn on North Broadway.
The citation states officers were called to the hotel around 8:57 p.m. on Dec. 14 for a reported fire. Police allege Britt intentionally started the fire inside the building, which was occupied at the time.
As a result, Britt is charged with first-degree arson and first-degree wanton endangerment, according to the citation. The document alleges the fire created a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to others, reflecting what officers described as extreme indifference to human life.
Police records show Britt was taken into custody at the same location around 10:44 p.m. He was arrested and booked on the two felony charges.
No injuries were listed on the citation.
Britt is being held in the Fayette County Detention Center.
