Kentucky State Police Investigate Fatal Shooting in Owsley County

OWSLEY COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky State Police are investigating the death of a woman following a reported shooting Saturday afternoon.

According to KSP, troopers were called just before 2 p.m. after the Owsley County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance with an investigation involving a woman found dead inside a home.

Investigators say 55-year-old Cloyd Burkhart allegedly shot and killed 51-year-old Crystal Sexton following an argument inside the residence. Sexton was pronounced dead at the scene.

Burkhart was taken into custody without incident. He is charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence, among other charges.

He is being held at the Three Forks Regional Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing.
