Publix Maple Walnut Coffee Cake recalled due to incorrect labeling

(ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The James Skinner LLC is conducting a voluntary recall of a single lot of Publix Maple Walnut Coffee Cake after the wrong ingredient label was applied to certain units, creating a potential health risk for people with walnut allergies.

According to the company, the product was packaged in cases labeled as Maple Walnut Coffee Cake but was inadvertently individually labeled as Publix Raspberry Coffee Cake. While the Raspberry Coffee Cake label states the product was processed on equipment that also processes almonds, pecans, and walnuts, it does not list walnuts as an ingredient.

The affected product can be identified through the clear lid, as the cake has visible walnuts on top along with a brown maple topping. Raspberry Coffee Cake does not contain walnuts and features a red topping instead.

The labeling issue was discovered by a retail store employee who noticed the visible walnuts on the product while it carried a Raspberry Coffee Cake label.

The recalled product may pose a serious or life-threatening health risk to individuals with a walnut allergy if consumed.

The affected items were shipped to Sourcing & Distribution Specialists in Winter Haven, Florida, and then distributed to Publix retail stores in eight states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

The recalled product details are:
Product: Publix Maple Walnut Coffee Cake individually labeled as Publix Raspberry Coffee Cake
Size: 14 oz.
Lot code: 5309
SKU: 54591
Date of manufacture: Nov. 5, 2025

The company says the error was isolated to certain units produced on a single day and has since been corrected. No injuries or illnesses related to the recalled product have been reported.

Customers who purchased the affected product are advised not to consume it and to return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
