New postal stamps honor Muhammad Ali

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The U.S. Postal Service plans to honor boxing icon and Louisville native Muhammad Ali with two new commemorative stamps set to debut next month.

Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. in Louisville in 1942, rose from a young fighter to become a three-time heavyweight world champion and one of the most celebrated athletes in history. Widely known as “The Greatest,” Ali also used his fame to advocate for peace, faith, justice, and humanitarian causes around the world.

He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005 for his impact both inside and outside the ring.

According to USPS, the official unveiling ceremony for the new stamps will take place on January 15 — just two days before what would have been Ali’s 84th birthday.

Additional details about the design and availability of the stamps have not yet been released.
