Family cemetery in Pike Co. vandalized
PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) — A family in Pike County recently found their loved one’s grave had been vandalized in their private cemetery.
Carroll family members say they are determined to find whoever did this and bring them to justice.
They aren’t sure when the vandalism took place, but they’re thinking it was within the last two to three weeks.
Ronnie Carroll says generations of his family dating back to the late 1800’s, early 1900’s are buried here.
Matilda Spears says her grandfather, Herman Carroll, has been gone for 31 years. She says she doesn’t understand why anyone would want to do this now.
Ronnie says their grandfather was a coal miner and would give the shirt off his back to anyone.
He says it looks like someone bashed the headstone in with a sledgehammer.
Family members got an estimate for the damage and it’s about $1,650.
Spears says someone tore her grandfather’s picture off the headstone, knocked it down and tried scratching out the words “Gone but never forgotten.”
She adds she feels like this was a personal attack to her family.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.
