Kentucky volleyball sweeps Cal Poly in Sweet 16
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The Kentucky Wildcats advanced to the Elite 8 after sweeping Cal Poly in three sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-7) on Thursday afternoon at Historic Memorial Coliseum.
Kentucky hit .419 for the match and held the Mustangs to .114.
Lizzie Carr had an extremely efficient game, hitting .667 (11-of-15) alongside six blocks, one dig, and one error.
Kentucky’s defense totaled nine blocks and 38 digs, with Molly Tuozzo leading the way with nine and Brooklyn DeLeye adding eight.
Set One: Kentucky took the lead early and held onto it, winning the opening set 25-18. Carr was a perfect 5-of-5, five kills on five attempts, in the first set. The Cats recorded 15 kills and hit .464, holding the Mustangs to .346.
Set Two: The Cats claimed the second set 25-19. Carr continued her outstanding performance, finishing the set 8-of-11 (.636) with four blocks, one dig, and one error. Kentucky hit .257 while the Mustangs hit .079 with eight errors.
Set Three: Kentucky stormed ahead to a 13-3 lead in the third set after an eight-point run. The Cats dominated the frame, winning 25-7 to clinch a spot in the Elite 8.
Kentucky will face No. 3 Creighton in the Elite 8 on Saturday at Historic Memorial Coliseum.
