Major fire damages abandoned building in Hazard
HAZARD, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Fire crews in Hazard battled a major blaze Thursday night at an abandoned structure on Carter Street. The Hazard Fire Department was called to 509 Carter Street around 8:30 p.m. after reports of heavy fire and concern that people might be inside the building.
When crews arrived, the structure was nearly fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters searched areas of the building that were safe enough to enter but did not locate any occupants, according to officials.
The fire was contained by about 9:30 p.m., and crews worked to extinguish all remaining hot spots before midnight.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
