Mayor cancels special called meeting causing outbursts

LAUREL COUNTY, KY. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Tensions escalated in London on Wednesday after Mayor Randall Weddle announced the cancellation of a special-called city council meeting. The meeting was abruptly halted when too many residents arrived to voice concerns about new ordinances that could reduce pay and lead to layoffs for city workers.

The meeting had been scheduled in a smaller room than usual due to a booking conflict, putting the space at capacity with standing-room-only conditions.

Following the mayor’s announcement, a tense exchange broke out between council members, the mayor, and several people in the crowd.

More information about the proposed ordinances can be found on the City of London’s website and Facebook page.
