Lexington council set for final vote on proposed new government center
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Lexington’s Urban County Council is preparing for a second and final reading Tuesday on a proposal that would pave the way for a new government center, often referred to as a new City Hall.
The vote is set for 5 p.m. at the current Government Center on Main Street.
The proposal outlines a public-private partnership to purchase and redevelop the Truist Bank building on West Vine Street as the city’s future government headquarters.
Earlier this month, several council members raised concerns about the plan — including how the project would be financed, the terms of the private partnership, and whether the redevelopment could affect future property taxes.
