UK expects biggest crowd of season for Mississippi State game
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Underwhelming opponents and early start times are seen as reasons for some empty seats in the early games during the Kentucky football season. However, UK Athletics is expecting a changing tide when the Mississippi State Bulldogs come to town.
Guy Ramsey with UK Athletics says there was a spike in ticket sales after the historic win over Florida.
“We’ve seen a lot of tickets move this week already. In a span of 24 hours from Monday to Tuesday, we moved about 2,000. We’ve moved a good portion today, I think were over 47,000 now,” said Ramsey.
Ramsey says a lot of schools are struggling with attendance nationwide. The first two home games of this season drew under 50,000 solid blue fans. However, according to the NCAA, Kentucky was sixteenth in average fan increase from 2016 to 2017 by almost 3,000.
Ramsey adds that the wins against then ranked Missouri and Louisville in 2016 led to huge fan turnouts the following week.
