Scott County deputy uninjured after ballistic shield stops bullet during standoff
SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Scott County deputy is safe after a ballistic shield stopped a bullet during an hours-long standoff with a teenager in Georgetown on Sunday, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the incident happened at a home on Laurie Lane after a juvenile armed with a gun allegedly barricaded himself inside a bathroom. According to investigators, the teen fired a shot through the bathroom door toward a family member before locking himself inside.
The Georgetown News-Graphic reports the suspect is 17 years old.
Deputies say that when they entered the home, the teen allegedly fired another shot from a bedroom, striking a ballistic shield held by a deputy. No injuries were reported.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies eventually deployed tear gas, which forced the juvenile out of the home. Additional details, including potential charges, have not yet been released.
