KSP investigating deadly police pursuit and shooting in McCracken County
McCRACKEN COUNTY, KY. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Kentucky State Police are investigating a police pursuit that ended in gunfire and the death of a Paducah man late Thursday night.
Officials say 26-year-old Robert Wray died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after firing at officers during the chase.
The incident began around 8 p.m., when a McCracken County deputy spotted a pickup truck with a camper being driven recklessly on Hardmoney Road. When the deputy tried to pull the vehicle over, Wray refused to stop — and during the pursuit, the camper detached from the truck, but Wray continued driving.
As the chase entered the Lone Oak area, investigators say Wray fired shots toward officers. Police then used a pursuit intervention technique to stop the vehicle, which ended up crashing into a house on Lone Oak Road.
Wray was found with a gunshot wound that appears to have been self-inflicted. He was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead.
No officers or bystanders were injured. The investigation remains ongoing.
