Fire Department: One person hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after Rand Avenue house fire

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – One person was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a house fire Tuesday afternoon on Rand Avenue in Lexington.
According to Battalion Chief Matt Galati with the Lexington Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 4:15 p.m. for reports of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire on the first floor and learned an elderly man was trapped upstairs.
Firefighters went in through a second-floor window and were able to rescue the man, who was taken to UK Hospital in life-threatening condition.
Chief Galati said the fire was difficult to put out due to heavy clutter inside the home and the building’s age. Crews brought the fire under control around 4:45 p.m.
No firefighters were injured. Two people were displaced, and the American Red Cross is assisting them.
Fire investigators remain on scene working to determine the cause of the fire.
