Travel back in time with Camp Nelson
Camp Nelson was the base for 8,000 to 10,000 soldiers between 1863 and 1866. When the camp closed, the soldiers were reassigned to be placed out West, and eventually they were known as the Buffalo Soldiers. The cemetery at that location was completed in 1868. September 15 and 16 the park is hosting “Living History Days”, where you step into a time machine and observe what life was like back then.
