Person who died in early morning crash identified

UPDATE:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim in the early morning deadly crash on Athens Boonesboro Road as 48-year-old Benjamin Gabbard of Winchester.

According to the coroner, Gabbard died from multiple blunt force injuries following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Athens Boonesboro Road and Doe Run Trail. His death has been ruled accidental.

As previously reported, Lexington Police said the crash happened just before 1 a.m. Thursday. Gabbard died at the scene, while the other driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by Lexington Police.

According to Lexington Police, the crash happened just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Athens Boonesboro Road and Doe Run. Officers say the driver of one vehicle died at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Their current condition has not been released.

Police closed outbound Athens Boonesboro Road near Hays Boulevard for several hours overnight while the crash reconstruction unit investigated.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
