Whitley County woman accused of biting deputies, breaking one deputy’s nose during arrest

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Whitley County woman is behind bars after allegedly biting two deputies and breaking one officer’s nose with his own baton, according to details in an arrest citation.

The citation states that deputies responded to a home in Williamsburg on Monday morning after receiving reports that someone was busting out a victim’s windows. When deputies arrived, they attempted to arrest Amy Mabes in the victim’s backyard, but she ran into nearby woods.

According to the arrest citation, deputies caught up with Mabes, who continued to resist arrest as officers escorted her out of the woods. During the struggle, Mabes reportedly knocked a deputy’s baton from his hand and struck him in the face, breaking his nose and causing a cut above his eye that required stitches.

The citation also states Mabes bit that deputy during the altercation. When another deputy arrived to assist, Mabes allegedly bit her as well.

According to the citation, Mabes told deputies after her arrest that she had AIDS and hepatitis. She is charged with first-degree assault, fleeing or evading police, and other related offenses.

Mabes was taken to the Whitley County Detention Center following her arrest.
