Structure fire impacts traffic, including one school

MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A structure fire in Mount Vernon caused traffic disruptions near Rockcastle County Middle School Wednesday morning. The Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to Pitman Street around 7 a.m., finding an active fire and deploying multiple fire trucks to the scene.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the affected family, and mutual aid came from Brodhead and Brindle Ridge Volunteer Fire Departments.

Rockcastle County Schools reported traffic delays and said any students arriving late because of the fire would receive an excused tardy, according to the superintendent.
